We have already supplied hand washing sanitizers to over 50 vulnerable families across Masaka.

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

"People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel in these hard times of COVID- 19.”

We are in for a slog, but there will be an end to it.

As the COVID- 19 crisis continues to loom over us, the government of Uganda like other nations is continually issuing strict combat measures including a compulsory 32 days lockdown and a 14 days 7:00 pm curfew throughout the nation to stop the spread of the virus. Currently, only businesses dealing in agro-based merchandise and key work stations have been allowed to operate. The businesses which are allowed to operate are not able to get regular supplies, so communities are not only suffering from food shortages but also soaring prices for food and COVID- 19 sanitary facilities.

That’s why as Youth With A Vision, we came up with COVID- 19 prevention appeal, through which you have made great contributions enabling Youth With A Vision to provide for the needs of Uganda’s poorest populations (mainly children, foster parents, and youth) under our care during the pandemic. Nonetheless, there is still GOOD to be found in the world. And may this update fill you up with hope today.

We are glad to report to you that with your contributions, we procured materials and started on the making own liquid soap for sanitizers. This soap is cheap and effective for proper hand washing. The distribution of this soap is underway across our foster families. So far some 50 families have already received the liquid soap have been enabled to regularly wash their hands as one of the measures for stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

We have started on the provision of television classes which are offered by Buganda Broadcasting Services (BBS Telefaayina) for a little education. This is very helpful mainly to the children who are preparing to write their Primary leaving, Ordinary level and Advanced level National Examinations. Some 10 of children on our program are already accessing these classes.

We have also produced a coronavirus educational kit containing tips for fighting the virus. This kit is already under circulation to children in Masaka.

At this time it is hard to estimate the time these hard times will stay but what we can tell is that your support has been encouraging, and is enabling us to make a difference in these tough circumstances.

However, in the videos we bring you what is already happening and some thanks from some of the young people that have benefited from your donation and support.

But hundreds more children and families need our help every day through the pandemic.

We hope to raise at least enough money and be able to reach more vulnerable foster families with sanitary facilities, television classes for the remaining 50 students and a food kit containing maize flour, rice, beans, and sugar to all the 200 families, through the pandemic.

We know that Covid-19 is impacting many aspects of your lives, but if anyone feels financially able to support us (or more) through these unprecedented times, it will ensure that we can continue to keep supporting the young people and their foster families with meals, sanitary facilities and television classes, through the pandemic.

Any donation helps! And this is what your contribution can do.

£6 ($8) (€8) will buy ingredients to make 10 liters of proven effective liquid soap to sanitize one family for two months. - We now target 150 families across the Masaka community.

£18 ($22) (€20) will provide a food parcel containing (5kgs of maize flour, 5kg of rice, 1.5 kgs of sugar, 5kgs of beans) for one family of four members for two weeks. – we Target 50 families.
