We are scaling up our support to vulnerable families through the pandemic.

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Each of your donations has counted and enables us to provide food and sanitizer rations to the needful families and television classes to the vulnerable children primarily under our foster care.

As mentioned in our previous update, our relief works on the basis of funds received, and then items purchased and supplied. This is because other things can wait but hunger can’t. Today we have been live on Facebook delivering food to some more families.

If you missed watching us live today, don’t worry. We have brought you news of what we have been to today!

During our food ration distribution today we reached four families; including a family of 8 members (6 children, their mother, and their father). Youth With A Vision has been supporting the education of two children in this family. This family has been living in dire need due to lockdown as a measure for stopping the spread of COVID- 19 outbreaks in Uganda. In this family, the mother is unemployed due to the lockdown and is currently breastfeeding a one-year-old kid. The father, who is a porter on any available construction sites, in normal days earns $50 in one month, which is not enough to provide for the needs of the family, he is currently trapped 150 miles away on a site where he had gone for work. When the government enforced a stay at home restriction, construction works were halted and all workers at this site were dismissed. At this time government had also stopped the movement of transport and private vehicles and he had no transport means to travel back to his family. He instead sent the few coins he had earned in the period to the family. The family spends this money in just a few days and since then they have been living on tea for a daily meal.

Thanks to your generosity which has helped us to provide food to this family to enable them to survive for more days! This family received the food ration with excitement, renewed hope and in the photos and video we want to share a word of thanks from them.

This is the time than before we all need to support one another regardless of what. We still have many families on the target list and many other families outside our care come to us every day for help with food. However, we are very limited by funds and things are getting worse each day. Today the government of Uganda has announced an extension of the stay at home restriction by 21 more days effective 15 April 2020! The vulnerable families are looking at this extension as more days of starvation.

And what is strange now is that even though the COVID- 19 is a big danger, populations here are more worried about food to enable them survival to the next level, than the virus itself!

We are in this situation together and we welcome and appreciate all your efforts if you can share our appeal around.

Your will, intellect, interest, and concern will help to get donations in and we reach the needful families.

If you feel you are financially able, please donate to support us through these unprecedented times, and ensure that we can continue to support the young people and their foster families with meals, sanitary facilities, and television classes, through the pandemic.
